Sweet Water News
In February, the Sweet Water Foundation team began preparing The Commons for the quickly approaching growing season. While there is still prep work to do, The Commons is becoming more activated each day. Sweet Water Foundation also launched Sweet Water Academya neighborhood development demonstration site and living, learning laboratory that will reach thousands of youth, educators, and professionals in nonprofits and community-based organizations across Chicago.

Take a moment to read about happenings at The Commons. We look forward to seeing you at the Perry Ave Commons in the coming months! There GROWS the Neighborhood!

Humans of Sweet Water

Meet Vora Long Williams...Vora is a lifelong resident of Englewood who has witnessed many changes in the community. Despite the changes, Vora is dedicated to the Englewood community and to connecting people to each other and resources. In 2017, Vora found Sweet Water Foundation during a walk through the neighborhood. She has had the opportunity to get to know the team and see changes at The Commons. After retiring from the US Postal Service, Vora became a community leader and hopes to be a Life Coach someday. Sweet Water Foundation is excited to share Vora’s story and looks forward to continuing the relationship.

SAVE-THE-DATE: Remake Learning Days at The Commons

Sweet Water Foundation is excited to take part in the Remake Learning Days Chi festival. The festival, presented by the Chicago Learning Exchange (CLX), will turn Chicago into an open and dynamic learning laboratory with more than 100 hands-on, learning opportunities in schools, museums, libraries, parks, and c
ommunity centers across the city.  Save-the-date for a day of dynamic learning at The Commons.

Baked Jalepeño Poppers

During the cold winter months, jalapeños are a perfect way to heat things up and look forward to the heat of summer. Try adding jalapeños to tacos, cornbread, chili, collard greens, and more for an extra kick of flavor and spice.  This month, spice things up with this Baked Jalapeño Poppers recipe by Kate from Cookie + Kate.

Ingredients:
  • 12 large jalapeño peppers
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro, plus 1 tablespoon for garnish
  • ¼ cup chopped green onion, plus 1 tablespoon for garnish
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder 
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon fine sea salt 
  • ⅓ cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons crumbled feta cheese, optional
  • 1 big handful Kettle Brand Country Style Barbecue potato chips
