THERE GROWS THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Sweet Water News
This summer has been one of the busiest yet at The Commons. In July, SWF launched the pilot program for Sweet Water Academy, welcoming new apprentices, fellows, and humans-in-residence for 6 weeks of programming. The group spent their time learning about SWF's practice of Regenerative Neighborhood Development and engaging in every aspect of Urban Ecology. On Saturday, July 13, the Sweet Water community gathered at The Commons to hand-raise a modular, timber frame pavilion known as the RND House.  The house is inspired by the original Chicago Worker Cottage House and will be part of the 2019 Chicago Architecture Biennial.

As the Sweet Water Academy pilot program comes to an end, the SWF team is gearing up for busy and exciting months ahead. Stay tuned for more information about this year's Harvest Celebration, the official launch of Sweet Water Academy, the Chicago Architecture Biennial activities and events, and the Hyde Park Jazz Festival performance at The Commons. As we look forward to the next few months, we invite you to reflect on the activities and events that have taken place so far this summer. We look forward to seeing you at The Commons soon!

Raising the RND House at The Commons
On Saturday, July 13, the Sweet Water community once-again partnered with Trillium Dell, masters of timber craft and frame construction, to hand raise a timber frame pavilion at The Commons.  The new structure, known as the RND House, was commissioned as part of the 2019 Chicago Architecture Biennial (Biennial). Sweet Water Foundation is a Contributor to the Biennial, which opens September 19, 2019 at the Chicago Cultural Center.  Click here to learn more.

Beets and potatoes are both root vegetables that are packed with nutrients and are the perfect addition to a summer meal. This month, we invite you to stop by our weekly Farmers' Market to pick up some potatoes and beets so you can try out this recipe for Rosemary Roasted Beets, Potatoes, and Peppers  Jane Evans Bonacci from The Heritage Cook.
